In just a few weeks the JPII Newman staff and a group of UNO college students will be on our way to Mexico City for a spring break mission trip. During the week we will spend time in a home for forgotten, elderly handicapped women and with abandoned street children. In our encounters with those we meet, my hope is that we will serve as witnesses of God’s love and tenderness toward His children.
When speaking to a gathering of young people, Pope Francis asked: “What is the most important subject you have to learn at university? What is the most important subject you have to learn in life? To learn how to love.” He goes on to say we must “learn to be evangelized by the poor, by those we help…this is what helps you mature in your commitment to give to others. Learn how to open your hand from your very own poverty.” In whatever surprises and challenges we meet, my desire is that we would grow in our capacity to give and receive love and have a new awareness our own poverty and hunger for the Lord.
Thank you for your prayers! JPII, pray for us!
