Meet Monica
Moylan came to Iowa State her freshman year of college to study Civil Engineering. Once she was there, she immediately got involved in the Newman center. Later that year, she received an opportunity to study abroad in Scotland.
This allowed for Moylan to strengthen her relationship with God. She got to live as a peer minister when returned to Iowa State. Once she got back from a spring studying abroad one of her roommates was very impacted by a FOCUS missionary. She got to see the relationship aspect of faith through this encounter with her roommate.
Moylan, then joined a FOCUS bible study that was led by another John Paul II Newman Center FOCUS missionary, Amber Klein. Moylan said,
“I could see women who were in my bible study longing to know the Lord deeper and wanting to invite people into that.”
She later came in contact with the recruitment officer of FOCUS, Kylie Pots. Pots said that she was looking forward to Moylan’s application to become a FOCUS missionary. FOCUS stands for the Fellowship of Catholic University Students.
After participating in Engineers without Boarders and a mission trip with Christ in the City, Moylan was transformed through the gospel and decided to apply to become a FOCUS missionary. Moylan said,
“I went along with that interview process, that interview weekend I just felt peace and clarity and I decided that if I was offered a position I would say yes.”
Moylan was offered a position here in Omaha. When she received this placement, she was extremely excited because her mom was from Omaha and went to Creighton. She has been in Omaha for two months and her favorite thing to do is explore Omaha.
When asked what advice she would give to current students and incoming students she said that they should become involved, make prayer a priority and be open to others. She described the community here at Newman as a passionate, caring environment where authentic friendships are made.
