Each member of the JPII Leadership Team (JPII LT) commits to embrace and live the mission and core values of the JPII Newman Center.
There are five leadership roles available within the JPII LT. Each person will meet weekly with the staff mentor listed for that position.

Build a team to facilitate opportunities for community within our student population. Traditionally, this includes planning and facilitating weekly community nights, dances, socials after Mass etc. Given what is unknown about changes in group size and distancing limitations, there is a lot of room for creativity here!
Staff Mentor: Katie Winkler
Build a team to foster a culture of hospitality so that every student who walks in our doors, whether a regular attendee or someone brand new, would be known and loved. Some of these responsibilities would include training and assigning greeters and staffing a welcome table for Sunday Masses and community events. Help us become a community that “goes the extra mile” to welcome the stranger.

Build a team to assist in the recruitment and training of servers and ushers, maintaining and restocking sacristy supplies, and assigning readers, servers, and ushers for Mass.
Staff Mentor: Fr. Andrew Roza
Build a team to coordinate service efforts within the greater Omaha community, with relationship building as the goal and at the heart of each opportunity.

This role is all about storytelling. We have a lot of good news to share and no one shares the student experience better than you! In this role, you will build a team to help tell the stories of JPII Newman students through our social media platforms and written communication.

Team members will serve during the school year: August-May.
To bring the transformative love of Jesus Christ to every college student in Omaha.
1. CHASTITY, SOBRIETY, AND EXCELLENCE
JPII LT members are called to answer the high call of discipleship and should lead with moral authority among their peers by living lives of chastity, sobriety, and excellence. Doing so will lead to integrity of a life worth exemplifying.
2. ACTS 2:42 “They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers.”
Teaching of the Apostles: JPII LT members must love and be dedicated to the Church’s teachings that are given to us in Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and the Magisterium.
Communal Life: JPII LT members should invest in their peers by being present to them and accompanying them inside and outside the walls of JPII Newman.
Breaking of the Bread: JPII LT members should attend Mass regularly at JPII Newman and strive to maintain proximity to all the Sacraments the Church offers.
Prayer: JPII LT members commit to personal prayer for 30 minutes each day.
3. EVANGELIZATION AND HOSPITALITY
Matthew 28: 19-20 “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”
Jesus gives the great commission to his disciples and subsequently all his followers to go to the ends of the earth, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Therefore, JPII LT members should daily embrace their personal call to evangelizing through accompaniment and authentic friendship that leads to conversion.
Hospitality: A culture of hospitality (as opposed to isolated acts of hospitality) demands a posture of receptivity to the other at all times. This posture necessitates being welcoming to guests, going out of one’s way to talk to someone who is alone, and always being available to serve the needs of another.
1. PROVIDE DIRECTION AND ENSURE THE NEEDS OF THE JPII NEWMAN COMMUNITY ARE BEING MET.
Previously the Parish Council has served in this capacity. Given the importance of leadership among our students, we see the JPII LT being a more intentional and productive way to live out this role.
2. DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT PROGRAMS AND EVENTS SPONSORED BY JPII NEWMAN
In collaboration with JPII Newman Staff, JPII LT members will meet regularly to move the mission of JPII Newman forward through events targeted to the needs of the students.
3. SEEK OUT EMERGING LEADERS
JPII LT members will invite their peers to join in accomplishing the goals set forth by the JPII LT.
1. Commit to Core Values.
2. Meet weekly with the staff mentor for your position.
3. Attend regular JPII LT meetings. The entire JPII LT will meet monthly.
4. Invest in the JPII Newman community through common worship and social opportunities.
5. Attend the Monthly Leadership Summit with other JPII Newman leaders to receive training in leadership and evangelization.
