Our Promise to Omaha College Students

Any student with a FAFSA Student Aid Index (SAI) of 10,000 or less will automatically qualify for a 25% reduction in the listed rental rate beginning with the fall 2025 academic year.

For students applying to JPII Newman before the FAFSA opens on December 1, 2024

You can still see if you qualify for Newman Promise by submitting:

  • The 24-25 FAFSA, if you were enrolled in college last year, OR

  • The most recent 1040 Form U.S. Individual Income Tax Returns of applicant and parents

Either from the 24-25 FAFSA or the 25-26 FAFSA, submit a copy of this FAFSA Submission Summary with your application for housing.

A Student Aid Index of 10,000 or less qualifies the applicant to receive 25% off of the entire lease.

Until December 1, 2024, we will also accept the first page of the Form 1040 for the applicant and their parents.

A combined AGI (line 11) for the applicant and their parents that is less than $75,000 qualifies the applicant to receive 25% off of the entire lease.


Our Process

1. Apply for FAFSA and Apply Online with JPII Newman.

Fill our the FAFSA first. Then complete the online application form through the button below and pay the $90 app fee. The application fee is nonrefundable. After you apply, you’ll get an email with next steps. See above for info to apply before FAFSA opens.

2. Schedule a Conversation with a Staff Member.

Come visit our facility and sit down with a staff member. We want to learn about you and your plans for college and make sure our housing fits with your goals. If you can’t make an in-person meeting, we are happy to schedule a call.

3. Sign a Lease to Start your New Chapter.

The last step is to sign your lease and pay your $300 deposit. Then, your spot is held for the coming year!

Leases are granted on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t delay!

To reside at JPII Newman, students must be:

  • a minimum of eighteen (18) years old during the academic year of this lease (August through May) 

  • and no more than twenty-four (24) years old during the academic year of this lease (August through May). 

  • Students who are twenty-five (25) to twenty-seven (27) years old, will be considered at the discretion of the Pastor and Resident Director.

FAQs

  • Our leases are typically a 12-month duration from August-July. Many of our students remain in the summer and take classes or work full-time. There are a limited number of academic term leases each year on a first-come, first-served basis and for students who will be graduating.

    Applications for the next academic year always open on November 1.

  • No! We welcome students from any faith background, or none at all. All students are invited to our many social and faith-based events, and your involvement is up to you. There's always something going on!

  • We do not accept room requests.

    However, you can request a person (or multiple people) to be your roommate on the housing application or directly to the Resident Director. New residents can request roommates until March 1, after this date we will do our best to honor your request but it is not guaranteed.

    Roommate placements begin in May and are sent out in June.

  • All bedrooms are furnished with a bed, mattress (twin XL) , desk & desk chair, and a dresser.

    The common area is furnished with a couch, coffee table, chair, end table, bar stools. The kitchen has all major appliances (fridge, oven, microwave, & dishwasher). You may bring other furniture, but you may not remove any of the furniture provided in the unit.

  • Each resident has 24/7 access to their secure, individual mailbox. We receive deliveries from Amazon, USPS, UPS, and FedEx. Packages will be available for pick-up at the front desk after mail is sorted at 5:00pm. Once mail is sorted, you may pick-up your packages at the front desk between the hours of 9:00am-10:00pm.

  • Very! Your JPII keycard (or MAV Card) will give you access to all exterior doors, residence hall floors, stairwells, the elevator, and your apartment door. You will be issued a hard key for your individual bedroom.

    UNO Public Safety regularly patrols our parking lot, hall, and property. They are just a call away for emergencies or non-emergencies.

  • The JPII Newman Center offers complimentary, hi-speed wireless internet throughout the building. Residents will be given information to log in to the Wi-Fi; routers in each apartment unit ensure a strong, fast connection. There is also an Ethernet connection in the living room of each apartment. Additionally, a public Wi-Fi network is available in all common areas for guest use.

  • Each resident has 24/7 access to a laundry room with multiple units on their floor. And it’s FREE! There are no coins, tokens or cards to mess with. Just bring your own detergent.

  • The JPII Newman Center has a large parking lot on the North side of our building that is free of charge. Residents must register their vehicle at www.jpiiomaha.org/residents.

  • The JPII Newman Center is an easy bike ride away from UNO and approximately a 7-10 minute walk to Scott Campus. Residents are also welcome to purchase a UNO parking permit.
