This is Just the Beginning...

In high school in Norfolk, I was questioning so much and longing for more in my faith. I spent time with others from different faith traditions. I was so drawn to how they pray. It was during the pandemic though that I noticed something. Why so many people “miss” the Eucharist.

I had this idea coming into high school that the Church as old and dying. But that’s not true here. There’s a revival happening, and it draws us in. I’ve had actual encounters here that have deepened by relationship with Jesus and the sacraments, especially in the Eucharist.

Mission happens even in the laundry room.

A pivotal encounter was my first night here. The halls were full of great chaos and fun as the school year started. I happened to be in the laundry room and had a great conversation with an upperclassman. He simply asked me what I was seeking. I want to be alive in my faith. It was that simple and it is an everyday occurrence here.

The community absolutely drew me in. It was fun, authentic, and filled with people who had the same desire for friendship and holiness. I am pretty much involved in everything I can, and I am excited to be a Resident Assistant next year and put my mission into action. I am excited to see where the Lord takes me.

There’s so much to be grateful for, and I am especially grateful to the many students that came before me and the donors who helped make all this possible.

As our community grows, so does our need for support. I hope you will join me in donating to build up the students served here. It is having an impact on me and so many others. WE had another best-yet year with Newman Hall being at capacity with a waiting list for next year already; 5 of my friends are heading to seminary and we are welcoming 5 Catechumens into the Church at Easter vigil. . By sharing your gifts, you are directly helping our new and returning students in the fall.

I often wonder what I’d be doing or where I’d be if this place wasn’t here. I am so glad I won’t ever know.

Thank you so much for your help and prayers!
